Alex Salmond has been showing off his golf fashion choices.Alex Salmond has displayed his golf fashion of choice while taking part in a ClubGolf event at Castle Stuart.

Scotland's first minister opted for black golf apparel and a white golf cap as he showed around 300 children how its done on the driving range at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

The European Tour website noted the politician gave an impromptu question and answer session at the training event, asking the youngsters what they like most about playing golf.

Chief executive of the European Tour George O'Grady and Aberdeen Asset Management chief executive Martin Gilbert also attended the get-together, as did Scottish players Colin Montgomerie and Martin Laird.

Mr Salmond - who is also the MSP for Aberdeenshire East - described Scotland as the home of golf and claimed the country has a heritage in the sport that cannot be rivalled by any other.

He added: "But if we want to give Scotland the best chance of being the future of golf, we need to drive participation in the sport among our young people."
