Golf news: Volvo has announced an expansion to its Volvo in Golf programme. The number of people preparing to hit Britain's fairways by purchasing new golf apparel could be set to soar after Volvo announced it is expanding its Volvo in Golf initiative this year.

According to the car manufacturer, the Volvo Masters Tour - open to any golfer across the country with a handicap issued by a Council of National Golf Unions-affiliated golf club or the Fore Society - has a brand new schedule, consisting of 68 tournaments on some of the country's top courses.

Furthermore, the company has added the Volvo Team Tour to the programme, which gets underway in May and will see participants team up in pairs.

It explained that the scoring for the new tournament will be combined Stableford, but the "interesting twist" is that the order of merit will be based on an individual basis.

Duncan Forrester, head of public affairs, events and sponsorship for Volvo Car UK, said: "The Volvo in Golf programme affords thousands of amateur golfers, irrespective of their handicap, the opportunity to participate in competitive, enjoyable events."
