The industry figure commented: "Generally, I think they're just going to get more complex - there's not particularly much more you can do with a mechanical watch right now."
He explained, however, that wristwear utilising smartphone connectivity is unlikely to prove popular, as there is little demand for people to see who is calling them by looking at their arm.
Golf apparel wearers may therefore wish to give plenty of consideration to the style of watch they choose when out on the course, as the product might serve to either benefit or hinder their performance with the clubs.
