Female players sport golf clothing for tournament anniversary Female players have taken to the fairways in tartan golf clothing in order to celebrate the anniversary of their club's first ever tournament for women.

Ladies at Royston Golf Club commemerated the event, held at Scotland's Messelburgh Links course in 1811, with a stableford competition played in "glorious sunshine", the Royston Crow reports.

Prizes were donated to the attendees by long-time member of the venue Walter Shaw and the tournament saw Tracey Parson take home the silver prize after she racked up 32 points.
The award for best front nine went to Gill Doughton and the plaudits for best performance on the back nine were recieved by Jenny Thomson.

After taking to the fairways in their golf clothing, the women retired for a light lunch and prize-giving ceremony.

This comes after ABC 15 columnist Denise Naughton was told by the owner of a US retailer that environmentally-friendly golf apparel is becoming increasingly popular among female consumers.
