Alan Shearer sported golf clothing for a charity round.A number of famous faces associated with football's Premier League have taken to the course in golf apparel to play a round - raising money for a good cause in the process.

Sporting heroes such as Alan Shearer, Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy showed off their golf fashion as they competed in the eighth annual Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Classic, the Portugal News reports.

The event took place at the Pestana Vila Sol Golf Resort in Vilamoura, with proceeds from the day being donated to Portuguese children's home Refugio Aboim Ascensao.

Dr Luis Villas Boas, director of the establishment, told the news agency: "The event went impeccably well, with some very interesting lots at the auction in the evening, which raised many thousands for the children's home."

Former Manchester United striker Frank Stapleton led the winning team - Europcar - which triumphed with a score of 92 points.

The late Sir Bobby Robson's CV included managerial positions at Newcastle United, Barcelona and Ipswich Town, as well as the England coaching role.
