A former footballer has switched to golf clothing.Former Rangers footballer Ian Redford is hoping he will soon be wearing his golf apparel as a professional in the 18-hole game, as the 51-year-old has an eye on joining the senior tour later in the year.

The ex-player, who also turned out for Dundee and Dundee United, among others, is aiming to land a spot at the British Senior Open at Turnberry in July, the Scotsman reports.

Redford has relocated to the golf resort at Drumoig near St Andrews - a course that has existed for 600 years - where he has been practicing in preparation for his 2012 play.

He noted his ambition is to try and qualify for the senior tour card, adding: "It's a great experience for me. It's all about the journey. Who knows where it will lead to?"

Having played more than 200 times for Rangers, Redford is hoping his experience on the big stage will come in handy when he takes to the fairways in his golf clothing this year.
