Glenmuir golf clothing wearer Colin Montgomerie is thankful for charitable donation.Glenmuir golf apparel fan Colin Montgomerie has thanked a married couple for a sizeable donation for a charity close to his heart.

Dave and Fiona Cormack pledged £10,000 to construct a new cancer centre in Aberdeen that is to be run by the Maggie's organisation, which has been working with the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation.

The latter was established by Glenmuir golf clothing wearer Montgomerie and his family following the death of his mother to lung cancer in 1991 - and the competitor said he was delighted to meet Mr and Mrs Cormack after they made their offer.

He expressed his thanks for the contribution from the pair, adding: "We are ever closer to realising our vision of creating a Maggie's Centre in Aberdeen and enabling those with cancer to benefit from the unique caring environment offered through the centre."

Montgomerie - who was born in 1963 - recently hosted a private reception at Gleneagles to give his personal thanks to more than 100 supporters of the appeal.
