Published: 14 October 2011
Glenmuir golf apparel fan Colin Montgomerie is to make his over-age debut in 2013 after having a change of heart regarding participation in such competitions. The Scot - who is currently two years away from his half-century - said he is now relishing the chance to play against fellow over-50s when he participates in the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, the Daily Record reports.
Montgomerie believes there is no better tournament and venue in which to take his bow on the stage, claiming the course is the best in the nation.
He stated: "There's no reason why I shouldn't play. It's an easy drive down from Scotland to Royal Birkdale and I'm sure I will enjoy the week."
However, the star - who has more than 40 tournament victories worldwide to his name - said he will not be appearing in golf clothing at every seniors event, as he needs to fulfil other commitments, such as his role as an analyst for Sky TV.
