Glenmuir golf clothing fan Paul Lawrie has been praised for his off-course actions.Glenmuir golf apparel fan Paul Lawrie has been praised for the numerous gestures of goodwill he has made down the years.

The Scot - who turned professional at the age of 17 on April 1st 1986 - was among a handful of golf clothing wearers heralded by Scottish Golf Union chief executive Hamish Grey for their efforts away from the course, the Scotsman reports.

Other players recognised by the industry figure included Wallace Booth, Richie Ramsay and Callum Macaulay.

He also spoke fondly of 2010 Scottish champion Michael Stewart, who recently attended an induction day for the Scottish Golf Academy.

The industry figure added: "He talked through his career, why he came back early from college in the US and playing in the Walker Cup."

Mr Stewart stayed at the event - including the dinner at night - for a number of hours and took the time to go round and chat to many guests, he added.
