Golf apparel is becoming big business, it has been claimed.

Golf apparel market 'is growing'The US golf apparel market has gone from strength to strength in recent years.

This is according to Golf.com columnist Woody Hochswender, who cited figures from independent researcher Golf Datatech, which indicate gains in the sector.

A study conducted by the organisation found that during January and February this year, there was a 16 per cent increase in the sales of golf clothing and outwear.

Gains were seen by both on course retailers and outlets located away from courses, who witnessed a rise of 7.5 per cent.

Mr Hochswender went on to note that a total combined dollar sales increase of 13 per cent among golf fashion stores is "better than a blip".

He quoted Tom Stine, founder of Golf Datatech, who welcomed the news of growth in the sector.

"This is great news for the industry, great news for golf retailers," he said.

One entrepreneur who is cashing in on this trend is Connie Porter, who recently opened a women's golf fashion outlet in North Carolina, the Citizen-Times reported.
