Golf news: Amateurs can now claim big hole-in-one prizes.

Published: 26 October 2011

Golf fashion wearers may be looking to land hole-in-ones. Amateur players who like to display their golf fashion while out on the fairways are likely to be among those excited by the possibilities brought about via changes to rules regarding hole-in-one prizes.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) - which was formed in 2004 and is based in St Andrews - has revealed players will be able to compete for these golf gifts without their amateur status being placed at risk should they land a shot from a single stroke.

And the move has been welcomed by Michael MacDougall, secretary of the PGA Scottish Region, who told The Scotsman the scrapping of the £500 limit will create a buzz in golf clubs throughout Scotland.

Mr MacDougall stated: "I didnt see this change coming as I hadn't heard any mutterings about it, but I think it is going to make a big difference."

He added local businesses will view the development as an opportunity to get publicity via the 18-hole game.
