Golf news: A number of rule changes have been announced for the sport.
Published: 28 October 2011
People who are interested in golf fashion are likely to be among the many individuals affected by new rule changes for the 18-hole game. The United States Golf Association - which conducts the US Open and the US Senior Open, in addition to ten national amateur championships - and the Royal and Ancient rules committees have made a number of alterations in an effort to make the sport more user-friendly.
These new guidelines will come into being at the beginning of 2012 and are to be effective for four years.
Golf clothing fans may well find the developments are less strict than the previous regulations.
Among the changes is the rule that addressing the ball begins when a player grounds his club immediately in front or behind the ball - which could have implications for matches played in windy conditions - while those who arrive less than five minutes late will no longer be disqualified.
