Golf fashion icon Rickie Fowler has been touted as a replacement for Tiger Woods.
Published: 26 May 2011
The US Ryder Cup team member from 2010 is one of many young stars rising to the forefront in the sport.
His ascent was recently lauded by Ron Kroichick, columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, who claimed he is "exactly" what the game needs to connect with its next generation of fans.
"Fowler is young [and] on the fast track to stardom and oh-so-cool in many ways, from his motocross upbringing and lively tweets to his flat-brimmed hats and colourful attire," he said.
Mr Kroichick went on to state that the 22-year-old could be a potential replacement for Tiger Woods when the PGA Tour's new TV deal comes into effect in 2013.
Fowler's recent decision to wear cotton golf clothing at the Players Championship was hailed by Golf.com columnist Woody Hochswender, who noted that the material is fighting back against popular synthetics.
