Golf news - Brisbane's Carbrook Golf Club is home to man-eating sharks.
Published: 11 October 2011
Individuals playing at a course in Australia may be keen to keep their golf clothing dry rather than attempting to retrieve balls that land in the venue's lakes. This is because Brisbane's Carbrook Golf Club - which was voted the 2006 Queensland Metropolitan Golf Club of the Year at the Old Golf Industry Awards Night - is believed to be the world's first shark-infested course.
The facility's central body of water is occupied by six bull sharks, which remained in the lake after being washed onto the course when floods caused a nearby river to burst its banks.
Club general manager Scott Wagstaff told Sky News that competitors can get as close to the animals as six feet away, adding: "There's no drama, it's become a positive thing for the golf course. They are amazing. I've become a shark lover since working here."
The inhabitants have become well-known in the locality, resulting in a tournament - named the Shark Lake Challenge - becoming a monthly occurrence at the site.
