Golf clothing wearer Darren Clarke has made the top three for a coveted sports prize. The Northern Ireland golfer came second in the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award, beaten only by cyclist Mark Cavendish, whose record-breaking year saw him take home the green jersey in the Tour de France.
Clarke finished ahead of athlete Mo Farah - who polled third - and fellow Northern Irish golf apparel wearer Rory McIlroy.
It was the first time Clarke had earned a nomination for the famous gong and came after the 43-year-old was victorious in the Open Championship at Royal St George's in July this year.
The win was his first in a Major, despite his career spanning more than two decades.
Meanwhile, female golfer Lauren Taylor scooped the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award after she won the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship aged just 16 and appeared in the senior Women's British Open.
