Golf news: Royal County Down has been named the best golf course in the world.

In golf news likely to please tourism operators in Ireland, it has been revealed the country is home to some of the world's best golf courses.According to GolfWorld magazine's The World's Top 100 Courses You Can Play feature, nine venues in the nation have been deemed worthy of making the list.
The rundown suggests an increasing number of visitors may soon be making their way to Ireland in golf apparel to experience the locations featured in the rundown.
This may be true of Royal County Down - founded in 1889 - in particular, as it fended off competition from some of the most famous courses in the world to emerge as the overall victor.
Other Irish locations in the list included Royal Portrush's Dunluce, Portmarnock Old, the European, County Louth, Waterville, Ballybunion Old, Lahinch and Doonbeg.
David Boyce, head of business and sports tourism at Tourism Ireland, noted: "The Golf World poll also demonstrates how accessible our top courses are to visitors who want to come and experience playing world-class golf in a great environment."
