Lee Westwood has apologised for swearing on live TV while showing off his golf fashion at the Qatar Masters. The world number three revealed his mother requested he said sorry for an outburst on the 16th tee during the final round of the tournament.
Westwood said he did not expect any cameras to be on him at the time, as he was languishing down the leader board at four under.
He was caught unaware by the sensitivity of the microphones and noted: "My mum was the first person on the phone and she said you might want to apologise."
Westwood took to his Twitter account to apologise for his colourful language, explaining his shot had gone off "like a rocket" and then put the mishap down to the perils of live TV.
The Englishman - who turned professional in 1993 - then said he would wash his mouth out in order to not get in any further trouble.
