There have been few surprises in the Women's British Open first round, with Meena Lee - sporting dark golf clothing - taking an early lead. The South Korean hit seven birdies and no bogeys as she shot a seven-under 65 to ensure a two-shot lead.
However, competitors may be well advised to opt for waterproof golf apparel during the rest of the tournament, judging by the first-day conditions.
Lee said: "I like links golf. It's very different to what we play on the LPGA Tour and I really enjoyed it today, despite the weather."
Brittany Lincicome got off to a solid start with a round of 67, while Angela Stanford, Caroline Masson, Amy Yang and Sofie Gustafson all ended with a 68.
While Lee - who started playing the sport at 14 - opted for a combination of dark and light golf clothing, Momoko Ueda stood out in bright red and blue golf apparel and Anna Nordqvist wore matching pink shoes and cap.
