The Scot has agreed to his charity - the Paul Lawrie Foundation - sponsoring the Scottish Boys Championship in April.

Announced at Gleneagles, the deal sees a Scottish professional golfer lending their backing to a Scottish Golf Union national championship for the first time.

Lawrie, who turned pro in 1986 and has six European Tour wins under his belt, said he is delighted for his organisation to be supporting such an event - which he described as a tournament boasting a rich history that attracts the country's best young players.

He stated: "The Paul Lawrie Foundation is committed to supporting junior golf and increasing the opportunities for our young golfers to develop."

In 2011, the Scottish Boys Championship attracted players from more than 140 different clubs, with David Wilson of Troon Welbeck emerging victorious ahead of fellow competitor Liam Johnston.
