Glenmuir golf apparel fan Paul Lawrie is to miss the Irish Open.In golf news that may disappoint fans of Glenmuir golf apparel wearer Paul Lawrie, it has emerged the star will not be appearing in this week's Irish Open.

The player has decided not to participate in the competition as he believes a back problem may not recover in time.

Through his blog, the player revealed he suffered the injury when trying to lift his son's golf trolley and is reluctant to make the matter worse by competing in the European Tour event.

Lawrie explained he took his sons to the second round of the Conveners Trophy but added as he was "taking Michael's [golf cart] out of the boot [when] I felt my back go a bit and was only able to hit a few balls before I had to stop".

The Irish Open gets underway at Killarney tomorrow, but another player to miss the contest is fellow Glenmuir golf apparel fan Colin Montgomerie, who has withdrawn due to an Achilles injury.
