The English player won the event at Killarney by posting an overall score of 15 under par, leaving him one shot clear of his closest rival for the crown, Australia's Richard Green.

Green had an opportunity to take the title on the 18th green, but missed a long putt to hand Dyson his fifth European Tour victory.

Speaking after the tournament, the Yorkshireman noted that his performance throughout the competition was "probably the best I've ever played".

"I'm absolutely made up ... I came in playing some very good golf, but I didn't think it would be that good," he added.

Stephen Gallacher managed to finish in third position, while Ross Fisher, the defending champion, ended up nine shots off the winner.

Meanwhile, Open champion and home favourite Darren Clarke came back to earth with a bump after his recent victory at Royal St Georges by missing the cut.
