The president-elect of the LGU has condemned strict rules surrounding golf clothing.

The president-elect of the Ladies' Golf Union (LGU) has claimed that the unnecessarily strict rules surrounding golf clothing are putting younger players off the game. The Western Mail reports that Jill Edwards welcomed many of the changes to the modern game but feels that strict golf apparel rules could be dissuading the next generation from taking up the sport.
Mrs Edwards called for golf clothing rules to be relaxed, in order to attract younger players to the game.
"I know so many people who started playing golf in their 50s and absolutely love it, although they say they wish they'd started earlier," she said.
Ms Edwards said that people had made a mistake in thinking that the correct golf apparel would make people better behaved.
Earlier in the year, the LGU appointed former Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association Chair Gillian Kirkwood as its new Chairman.
