Fashion show features argyle sweaters on the catwalkChequered argyle sweaters stole the show on a London catwalk this week.

The long-sleeved garments, popular with golfers, were chosen for the exclusive fashion show by designer double-act Clements Ribeiro.

Argyle sweaters, famous for their colourful patterns, are said to be a perfect example of the exuberance and creativity currently flooding the world of fashion.

Designer Inacio Ribeiro, speaking to Reuters, said: "We wanted a collection that felt like a sorbet that is cleaning the pallet."

Also present at the show was Vogue editor Anna Wintour who, in addition to argyle sweaters, also saw knee-length striped skirts and a white princess coat paraded on the fashion footpath.

Canadian news reported the growing popularity of argyle sweaters across the Atlantic earlier this month.

Department store manager Zale Bethune told the Brockville Recorder and Times: "The must-haves this fall are boyfriend cardigans, argyle sweaters and the classic loafer."
