While professional golfers may get more attention when they pull on their golf fashion clothing and tee off, the relationship between golfer and caddie is an important one.And now, Lawrence Donegan, one time caddie for Ross Drummond, has written his account of the one year that he spent carrying Drummond's golf bag round the course.
Mr Donegan is now the golf correspondent for the Guardian and spent the 12 months of the 1996 season with Drummond.
One sports writer, in an article for the Irish Times, says that the book is witty and well-written.
"Donegan is wry and self-deprecating in how he describes his bag carrying for one of golf's then journeyman," the writer comments.
It takes a special kind of person to be a caddie, the writer goes on to say, as they need a sense of adventure and willingness to play the servant role.
NJ.com recently reported that Jim "Bones" Mackay, caddie for Phil Mickelson, has been seen chatting to golfer Tiger Woods on the course.
The source expressed surprise that the usually anti-social Woods was prepared to speak to him.
