French golfer Christian Cevaer won the European Open golf tournament at the London Club in Kent this weekend. The 39-year-old beat off the challenge from Gary Orr, Steve Webster and Alvaro Quiros to take the trophy in front of a 30,000 strong crowd.
Cevaer scored five pars on the spin and then birdied the 15th hole, before taking par on the final three holes of the round to secure the win.
After finishing two-under 74, the world number 449 took home the £300,000 prize, beating defending champion Ross Fisher by 13.
Speaking to BBC News, Cevaer described the win as a "fantastic day" and said that he is "ecstatic to come out on top".
"What a great surprise it was to see the big leaderboard when I was coming up the hill at the 18th and that I was the only guy left on seven under. I am proud to get the job done," he added.
Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy, Cevaer's playing partner, stayed in sight of the leading pack but eventually fell away with a round of 75.
