Danish golfer Anders Hansen took an early lead at the European Open yesterday (May 28th) after scoring a late eagle to finish at seven under par 65.

The 38-year-old two times former European PGA champion played some excellent golf to take five birdies to top the leaderboard at the London Club in Kent.

Speaking to Reuters, Hansen said: "I hit a pretty good drive down the right, then hit it just short of the green."

"It was quite a tricky chip because we were on the left side and the pin was short left so we were unsure if we could get enough check on the ball to stop it. But I hit it beautifully from about 15 yards."

Joint second place went to Sweden's Peter Hanson, South Africa's Thomas Aiken, Britain's Sam Little and Indian player Jyoti Randhawa, all with a round of 66.

World number five Henrik Stenson had a difficult round after finishing at four over 76, but fourth-ranked Sergio Garcia recovered from a first-hole double bogey to end at 69.
