English golfer Richard Finch has taken the lead at the Johnnie Walker Championship while sporting some outlandish golf apparel.

Finch took the lead at the event's first dayAfter a strong showing from Simon Dyson, England's Richard Finch has moved into the lead at Gleneagles, while sporting some garish golf clothing.

Sporting a bright green golf shirt, Finch made a golf fashion statement as he took advantage of two late bogeys from countryman Dyson.

He also wore a dark golf cap and completed the outfit with a pair of light golf trousers.

The Yorkshireman finished in first place with six under par, closely followed by three ties for second place coming in at five-under.

Gleneagles' first day was not as good for fellow English golfer Ross McGowan, who was plagued by a trapped nerve in his shoulder and had his Ryder Cup dreams dashed by a string of dropped shots.

Things took an exciting turn in the lead-up to Gleneagles after Peter Hanson's Czech Open win prompted Miguel Angel Jimenez to miss his nephew's wedding and attend in a bid to secure his Ryder Cup spot.
