Golf fashion is becoming mainstream, it has been claimed.
Published: 28 April 2011
Golf apparel is increasingly becoming viewed as fashionable by the mainstream media. One need only look at the prevalence of golf fashion punditry to realise the sport has outgrown popular perceptions as home to an elite of wealthy businessmen.
For instance, Dan Davies, in a recent article for US clothing retailer Mr Porter, highlighted the growth of golf apparel and noted its relationship to mainstream style.
He claimed that the change was particularly evident at the recent Masters tournament in Augusta.
"Golf's first major championship of the 2011 season signalled a changing of the guard - and a changing of its wardrobe," said Mr Davies.
He went on to note the rise of young players such as Rickie Fowler and Ryo Ishikawa, stating that they share a "penchant" for high-end golf fashion gear.
Luke Donald was recently hailed as one to watch in the world of golf fashion by Sean Hotchkiss, in an article about the player on the Khaki Crusader blog.
