Golf clothing signed by Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie was among the lots this weekend in a Melton charity auction.

A selection of golf clothing signed by top names from the sport went up for sale in Melton in aid of charity this weekend, it has been revealed.

The Melton Times reports that golf clothing items signed by stars including Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington could be purchased in order to help out a worthy cause.

Each year, following the annual golf competition at Melton Golf Club, items donated by local residents Dave and Carol Pick go under the hammer.

The funds raised are donated to the Melton Lions, who use the money to help needy children.

Bids this year were also accepted from people who could not attend in person, with a telephone number circulated for those individuals keen to buy some of the golf apparel.

In all, between the signed items and other pieces of golf apparel, the Melton Times notes there was a "wonderful variety" of lots up for grabs.

Other sports to help out the Melton Lions recently included swimming, as the group broke its fundraising record through the 2009 'swimarathon'.
