Practical and waterproof golf apparel was the order of the day at the US Open, as rain battered the golfers taking to the course.

Those braving the rain to watch the US Open did not impress one writer with their choice of golf clothing.

Writing for Golf.com, Woody Hochswender said that the "slightly soggy" crowd did not wear golf clothing which was "terribly stylish".

However, he said that there were a few people who still managed to look like they knew their golf fashion -despite the terrible weather.

Mr Hochswender said that the best clothing he saw at the event were the "long-legged" girls who sported wellington boots with short skirts.

While this may be an ideal look for golf spectators, when taking to a muddy course, golfers may find that special golf shoes help them stay upright and play to their best ability.

Ricky Barnes is praised for his checked golf trousers and golf cap, with John Mallinger's buttoned golf trousers also remarked on.

Golfer Ian Poulter is well-known for his taste in golf apparel.

He can often be seen taking to the golf course in golf trousers which are colourful and highly-patterned.
