In the run-up to the Sports Personality of the Year award, the images of the year include one golf fashion moment, the BBC reveals.

In the run-up to Christmas 2008, golf fashion has been put firmly on the agenda by broadcaster the BBC.

South African player Trevor Immelman has been shortlisted for the Sports Personality of the Year award after winning the Masters earlier in the year.

Perhaps one of the most iconic golf fashion moments for any player - the presentation of the green jacket - makes the BBC's "images of 2008".

Immelman's victory might seem particularly impressive in light of the fact that he had gone through brain surgery in December of the previous year.

But, by April, he was fit enough to fight through to win the 72nd Masters in Augusta after competitors failed to achieve an expected late surge in scoring.

The official site of the Masters tournament explains that the green jacket was created as a lightweight version of the golf outerwear members of the Augusta club were expected to wear in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
