This year's Ryder Cup will have certain clothes excludedIn an effort to prevent a repeat of "ambush" marketing stunts at other sporting events, certain types of golf clothing have been banned from the Ryder Cup.

The Western Mail reports that, in a move which surprised fans of golf, clothing which features any kind of political slogan or advertising will be excluded from the event.

A Ryder Cup spokesman told the publication that he had nothing to add about fears of "ambush marketing" but claimed the banned list would aid security for the event.

"With 45,000 attending the Ryder Cup each day, these restrictions, as itemised in the Spectators' Guide, can assist security staff and reduce the waiting time for the public," he said.

Other items included on the ban list include frisbees, gazebos, in-line skates, deck chairs and mobile phones.

In addition, fans that leave the event during the day will not be allowed back in under the new rules.

Earlier in the month, Scottish golfer and former Ryder Cup team member Paul Lawrie defended the wildcard picks of European captain Colin Montgomerie.
