A new survey has shown that golf has become more popular in the UK over the past two years, which could see more and more people investing in items of golf apparel.

Playing a game of golf is an increasingly popular hobby in the UK, it has been suggested.

According to the results of the Sports England's Active People Survey, 2,948,000 people aged 16 and over play golf at least once every week.

This is a rise of almost 60,000 players since the survey first took place two years ago.

Friends and relatives of players could find that golf apparel is an ideal gift for those who regularly tee off.

Golf is now the fourth-fastest growing sport in England after athletics, cycling and football, the data shows.

The Liverpool Daily Post reports that the latest golf club membership questionnaire from the English Golf Union and the English Women's Golf Association (EGU/EWGA) suggests clubs are adopting various measures to encourage people to sign-up.

Reduced entry fees were one of the tactics highlighted.

Richard Flint, golf development manager for EGU/EWGA, told the newspaper: "The opportunities available in golf clubs for all ages at present are wide-ranging and there is no better time to become a member."
