Golf news: BMW PGA Championship kicks off

The BMW PGA Championship kicked off yesterday (May 21st) and after the first round English duo Anthony Wall and David Horsey shared the lead with Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.It is being held at Wentworth and the golf apparel was on show throughout the day with enthusiastic supporters cheering on their golfing heroes.
The leading trio each shot an opening round of 67, with other tournament favourites including Ross Fisher and Miguel Angel Jimenez in the following pack after the first day.
However, some notable absentees at the event include Ryder Cup teammates Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia.
Meanwhile, Irish Open winner Shane Lowry yesterday announced his decision to turn professional.
The 22-year-old Irish amateur won the event following a storming second round score of ten under par to lead the way until the finish. Following the achievement, he noted his delight at winning and fulfilling a childhood dream.
