Golf news: The British Open receives high praise from one golf writer.
Published: 13 October 2009
The British Open has been praised for its ability to attract spectators and enthusiasts who may not actually have much of an interest in golf.Writing for the PGA Tour's website, David Brice from Golf International said that out of all of the golf events seen around the globe, the four Majors "have the unfailing ability to appeal to just about everyone".
However, "it's the one Major that never touches American soil" which is able to appeal to the largest audience, he said.
He noted that golfers have been donning their golf apparel and taking to the course for the British Open for the longest period of time compared to any other golf tournament, having first been played back in 1860.
"No other tournament has the history and tradition, the pageantry and undiluted drama of this champion of all championship events," Mr Brice said.
He went on to say that as a destination, Scotland is popular with golfers and is home to some of the best golf courses in the world.
These include St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links and the Royal Troon Golf Club.
