"China is the bright spot," he tells the news resource.

Mr Norman, who himself has won the British Open twice, has previously designed golf courses at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen and Kai Kou Golf Club in Xiamen.

He was born in Queensland, Australia and has finished in first place on the PGA Tour a total of 20 times.

After turning professional in 1976, Mr Norman went on to rank 52nd on the PGA Tours earnings list.
