Graham Cooke is leading the field at the 2009 Seniors Open Amateur Championship after one full day of play. The golfers at the event may have been glad of warm golf apparel as reports from the course suggest that the day was windy and cold.
Cooke, who is from Montreal in Canada, shot five birdies to end with a score of one-under-par 71 at the Prestwick Golf Club.
The golfer has won the Canadian Seniors tournament three times in his career and he has been close to winning the Seniors Open Amateur Championship in the past, coming in second and third in recent years.
Also playing in the tournament is Scottish golfer George Macgregor, who managed a score of eight-over 80, which the Edinburgh Evening News noted is "by no means disastrous" considering the blustery conditions.
"I don't really play as much competitively these days but given that this event is in Scotland I thought I'd give it a go," he told the source.
