Jack Nicklaus dominated the golf news following his 70th birthday.Tributes to Jack Nicklaus have taken over golf news after the legend of the sport celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday (January 21st).

Golden Bear - as he is nicknamed - is one of the most successful golfers and sportsmen of all time.

During his professional career he picked up 73 tournament wins, including triumphs in three British Opens, six Masters and four US opens.

Leading the tributes was old friend and competitor Tom Watson, who rolled back the years to finish a close second in the 2009 Open Championship, following a play-off with Stewart Cink.

"Better than anyone else I've ever seen in golf, Jack had the amazing ability to hit the proper shot, at the proper time, under the proper conditions," he said.

He added that he has learned a lot of golfing - and life - lessons from Nicklaus.

Fellow legend Arnold Palmer also gave his compliments, saying that he has always wanted to protect the "integrity, dignity and traditions" of the game.
