Colin Montgomerie has made the golf news by expressing his delight at the start a number of European golfers have made to the 2010 season.

Colin Montgomerie has expressed his delight at the early-season achievements of a number of European players who have donned their golf apparel and excelled on the course.

Writing in his blog for the European Tour website, the captain of the 2010 European Ryder Cup team revealed that he has been particularly impressed with Martin Kaymer, Robert Karlsson and Miguel Angel Jimenez, who won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, Commercialbank Qatar Masters and Omega Dubai Desert Classic respectively.

However, he also had kind words for Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Alvaro Quiros, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter, who he explained have all shown great form over the last couple of tournaments.

Commenting on this year's Ryder Cup, which takes place from October 1st to 3rd at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, Montgomerie said: "With European players occupying half the world's top 20, it just goes to show the huge wealth of exciting talent I now have at my disposal."
