Golf news: Gleneagles is getting an 18th hole makeover.
Published: 30 November 2011
Golf clothing wearers selected for the 2014 Ryder Cup are to face a new-look 18th hole when teeing off at Gleneagles. It is hoped the makeover will help to produce an exciting finale to the tournament and will see a slightly elevated tee constructed, as well as 35,000 tonnes of soil being removed in order to make the final part of the hole more flat.
In addition, the green is to be relocated to the right of where it currently stands.
Patrick Elsmie, managing director of Gleneagles Hotel - which is located in Auchterarder, Perthshire in Scotland - explained: "The final proposal is for a par five of 513 yards with a new elevated tee and the green dropping by 1.5 metres."
Mr Elsmie said the organisation is happy with the development and hopes it will make the final hole an enthralling proposition for the golf apparel wearers tackling it in the Ryder Cup.
