Golf news: Famous golf hole to be extended for 2010 OpenThe 17th hole on the golf course at St Andrews is to be made 35 yards longer, it has been announced.

The work will take place ahead of the 2010 Open Championships, which will be the 150th such event to take place at the course.

After the lengthening has taken place, the Road Hole will be 490 yards.

The Road Hole is well-known in the golfing world for being hard to complete and changes to the length of the hole have been suggested numerous times.

According to the official St Andrews Links Trust golf course - which is the biggest golfing complex in Europe - golf has been played at the course since 1400 AD and is thought to be the home of the game.
