Golf news: Game to feature at the 2016 OlympicsGolf apparel-clad players will soon be a familiar sight at the Olympics after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted to have the game put back on the Games calendar from 2016.

Golf was put forward for consideration some months ago but it was unclear whether it would make the final IOC vote, due to concerns over the logistics around playing the game in Africa and Asia.

As well as golf, rugby sevens is to be put back on the Olympic agenda.

Overall, 63 people on the committee voted for golf and 27 voted against.

In the 2016 Games, there will be a 72-hole stroke-play event for both male and female golfers, with 60 from each field taking part.

Commenting on the decision, Tiger Woods said: "There are millions of young golfers worldwide who would be proud to represent their country. It would be an honour for anyone who plays this game to become an Olympian."
