Russian golfers awarded sporting scholarshipsA number of Russian students who are studying sport are to be given the chance to pull on their best golf clothing and take to the course as part of a series of grants awarded by the R&A, the society has announced.

A total of ten students from the University of Sport in Moscow have been given £500 to help them keep up with playing golf at a competitive level while still continuing to study for their degrees and qualifications.

Furthermore, the university has also been given a SAM PuttLab, which the R&A website noted is a "state-of-the-art" putting aid, which is aimed at helping players become better golfers when they don their golf apparel and take to the course.

Among the ten students chosen to receive the grant is 16-year-old Nikita Ponomarev who recently won the Faldo Series Russia event, the R&A said.

Students were also given golf accessories such as golf clubs.

Golf was recently accepted into the Olympics from 2016.
