Golf clubs could be an ideal golf giftGolfer Peter Thomson celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday (August 23rd).

The player, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, has in his career donned his golf clothing and won the Open five times.

He first saw success on the golf course when he was just 16, after winning the Royal Park club title, with his last big victory back in 1988 when he was victorious in the Senior Open Championship.

Though Thomson may no longer be a professional golfer, a golf gift such as a new golf shirt or pair of golf shoes could still prove an ideal present.

Among the golfers paying tribute to Thomson on his birthday were Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player.

"Peter was a terrific player and he had a game wonderfully tailored to links and seaside golf. He was very good in the wind, able to land the ball short and run it into the greens," said Nicklaus.
