Golf news: Harrington unveils running tee-off
Published: 20 May 2009
2008 PGA Tour Player of the Year Padraig Harrington has claimed that taking a running start to his tee shot allows him to hit the ball 30 yards further. He recently tested his new drive for the Sport Science programme on Fox Sports Network and noted that the increased distance makes up for the loss of acccuracy on the shot.
Harrington named the shot "the Happy Gilmore", in recognition of the 1996 movie starring Adam Sandler.
"The best player in the world always tends to be the longest hitter in the world, or close to it. He always has a length advantage," Harrington told the Times.
Meanwhile, individuals looking to take in a relaxing round of golf have continued to be attracted to the Wynyard golf club in the Tees Valley, despite the effects of the economic downturn.
Journal Live recently reported that a more informal dress code has allowed for a more relaxed atmosphere at the club and in turn, golfers have continued to show their support for the facility.
