Westwood's golf apparel clad victory gets praise from Montgomerie.

Golfer Colin Montgomerie has given his congratulations to Lee Westwood, who donned his golf apparel and teed to victory in the Dubai World Championship recently.

Writing on his blog, Montgomerie said that Westwood played brilliantly in the event.

"I send my congratulations to Lee Westwood, not only on his superb triumph in the Dubai World Championship but also winning the Race To Dubai, he played fantastic golf and I am thrilled for him," Montgomerie enthused.

He went on to say that European Golf is currently going through a good time and pointed out that for the first time ever, six out of the top ten players in the world are from Europe.

These are, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington and Rory McIllroy.

Westwood recently admitted that after a string of disappointing performances when donning his golf apparel and taking to the golf course back in 2001, he almost quit the sport.
