Golf news: New UK Walker Cup captain revealedWelsh golfer Nigel Edwards has been unveiled as the captain of the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team.

He will now don his golf clothing and head up the squad at the 2011 Walker Cup Match at the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, where they will face a team from the US.

Commenting on the golf news, Edwards said that the overall goal is to "win back the Walker Cup" and he pledged to head up the team with "great pride and enthusiasm".

"The Walker Cup is a great sporting spectacle that conjures up moments and experiences that will live with players for their entire careers and I am really excited about continuing my involvement with the match," he said.

Between 2001 and 2007, Edwards played in four Walker Cup Match events, winning four times, tying three times and losing five times overall.

This year, Edwards has played in tournaments including the Welsh Amateur, the Trubshaw Cup and the European Nations Cup.
