Published: 02 December 2009

Golf database launched The Royal and St Andrews (R&A)golf club has announced the launch of a new golf club database which is aimed at helping gamers and Rules Officials to work out whether the golf clubs they are using fit with current rules and specs.

According to the R&A's director of rules and equipment standards David Rickman:
"New specifications will be applied at the highest level of professional golf next year, via a Condition of Competition, and it is important that we provide as much information as we can to players."

He noted that the information could be important for those taking part in the tournaments as well as those who run golfing events.

The database could be useful for players to look at before they don their golf apparel and take to the course, to make sure that they are playing with golf clubs which are suitable.

Changes to the Rules of Golf in relation to the grooves on golf clubs will be put in place in January next year.
