Golf news: Course updated ahead of Open eventPreparations have begun at the St Andrews golf course in Scotland ahead of the venue's hosting of the 150th Open Championship.

The Open announced that over the weekend, work began on laying fibre-optic cable by the Old Course which will be used to broadcast live from the event, both on the television and over the internet.

It is hoped that viewers will be able to catch a glimpse of the golf apparel clad stars in action at the event, which is set to be held in July this year.

The 2010 tournament will be the 150th such event and the broadcasts will be the first time in its history that it has been shown in high definition, in keeping with the rapidly changing technology in the television sector.

"We extensively tested the technology at Turnberry last year and it proved to be a great success," said assistant director of championships Michael Wells.
