The British Open is due to return to Scotland's Muirfield links course in 2013, it has been confirmed.Organisers of the event Royal and Ancient (R&A) have confirmed that the tournament will return to Muirfield after an 11-year absence.
Director of championships at the R&A David Hill said: "We are delighted that the Open is returning to Muirfield, an outstanding championship course that consistently produces a very worthy champion."
It will be the 16th time that the oldest championship in golf will take place at the course.
The tradition of holding the British Open on a links course at a coastal location will continue here. Strong coastal winds can regularly have a sway on events taking place at such courses.
Scotland is set to host the Open both this and next year - with this year's championship scheduled to take place at Turnberry, while St Andrews will host the 2010 event.
